The Cobalt 292 is a bowrider with an overall length of 29' 6" and a 9' 6" beam. The 292 packs a full 186 cubic feet of storage - more cargo room than the largest sport utility vehicle on the road today. The aft wrap-around lounge can seat seven comfortably, with ample storage and an insulated ice chest underneath the cushions. With the filler cushions inserted, a full-length sunning area emerges.
For more formal occasions a round cockpit table drops into place. The galley, designed in a flowing curve, is both elegant and functional with sculpted countertops molded from premium materials. An elevated beverage-holder keeps bottles and glasses in place. A sink of generous size is here, with a storage area underneath, cabinetry to one side, and a location for an optional 12-volt refrigerator to the other.
Forward, the cockpit offers two double-wide seats, one at the helm, one for forward-facing passengers, both with Cobalt's flip-lip design for full comfort and support, in either a normal or an elevated position. The helm seat adjusts fore and aft to an ideal driving position and, at elevation, delivers a wide-angle view for docking. Underfoot, plush rubber-backed carpet with an embroidered Cobalt detail snaps down securely but removes easily. With the carpet removed, the floor's non-skid surfacing makes for safe walking about. The floor itself is very strong, totally composite, constructed of fiberglass and Nida-Core (a honeycomb material), free of rot-prone wood. Built as a liner deck - floor, the interior is self-draining for easy washdown.
Storage space is ample at floor level: a large locker in the aft cockpit area, an oversized ski locker in the forward walk-through area, storage compartments under the forward seat bases, each lighted - like all Cobalt 292 storage areas - and finely finished with either carpet, rubber matting or gelcoated surfaces. Hidden within the passenger-side console, the head compartment combines a spacious 54 inches of height with a 44-inch depth and 39-inch width.
In the 292's bow, guests will relax in oversized, curved seat backs facing forward with contoured comfort all around. On cooler mornings a bi-fold door closes the bow. A unique latch system uses no floor-level barrel bolts - never again a stubbed toe! All the way forward, an optional stainless anchor roller and windlass stand ready.
Wider and deeper is also the rule aft. Designed to be a center for waterborne activity, the swim platform is spacious and full-featured. The concealed boarding ladder is particularly solid; it extends a full three steps below the water line. On deck, a recessed area to starboard creates the perfect space for donning skies, scuba gear, and the like.
A transom shower waits conveniently at hand. Opposite to port the walk-through transom leads to easy entry to the cockpit. Also accessible from the transom, the aft storage compartment neatly houses shore power cords with plenty of space left over for other gear.
The Cobalt 292 is a driver's boat as well. The dash enhances instrument visibility and puts all control switches within effortless reach. Twin-engine instrumentation is organized for maximum display without the typical clutter: integrated volt - oil - temperature - fuel gauge displays gather all necessary information within a single unit. Twin power-trim gauges are mounted side by side for ease in synchronized adjustment.
The aircraft-style, dash-mounted circuit breakers and stainless-steel switches deliver a level of reliability not found in plastic switches and fuses. The engine-access opening stretches the full width of the cockpit. Hydraulic rams lift the motorbox lid to a height that allows a six-footer to stand completely upright at the engines. With so much space to move about, the 292 is easy to service, even with twins.
The basics of Cobalt craftsmanship underpin the 292. They're present in the composite floor and fiberglass stringer system, and clear in the strength and durability of a hull design with a proven running surface that creates trademark Cobalt stability and ride. Cobalt's fully transferable ten-year warranty on the hull and deck is possible because of the evolution of the exclusive Hydrolam process: a multistage lamination sequence, with Kevlar on the keel and strakes and chines, and SprayCore 2000 to enhance the overall structural integrity of sidewalls and deck, to block print-through, and to markedly improve resistance to impact. Cobalt finishes are also here, the graphics molded into the gelcoat with gloss and clarity.
